Flower, flower, and flower! 😀 Yes, flowers are blossoming in the Netherlands once the spring and summer arrived. Even I saw many flowers, which are planted or wild, decorating the street side giving such a good feeling of the seasons 😀 Flower lovers, not only from Netherlands but also abroad, flock to Keukenhof to see the stunning beauty of the arranged flower park. Well, that’s not the only thing. In the Westland (region in the South Holland), a flock of people are awaiting for one special event called Varend Corso, or the Floating Flower Parade.
Back in 2010, when I visited this country for the first time, I was stunned with this event, Varend Corso. But, I never knew its name until I heard about the event again just a couple weeks ago. Had been allured by the attraction, I have made the Varend Corso again this year.
After browsed for its history, I got to know that Varend Corso was firstly organised in the Westland area in 1998. Since then, this event becomes annually. The idea was originally to mark the 800th anniversary of Poeldijk (which is I do not know about), two municipalities in Westland combined the flower parade and the boat parade into one event. So in Varend Corso, you will see boats decorated with flowers, plants, fruit, and vegetables sailing through the water canals in Westland area of Netherlands (including Delft, the city I am living in! :D). The route is totally around 70 km long and takes three days. For the best decorated (either with flowers or fruit) and the best musical arrangement boats, there are prizes to win. This year, there were around 40 decorated boats were staged! They all were attractive! I was impressed with the originality of the decoration and the design. Recommended to see! 😀
